The extension of the project and the additional funding were approved at the 6th meeting of the Project Steering Committee (CPP) of the European Union-Angola Dialogue Facility, which took place on the 6th of June, at the premises of the European Union Delegation, in Luanda, according to information published on the portal.
The Steering Committee, the governing body of the "Dialogue Facility", highlighted the value of the project as an instrument for partnership initiatives and exchange of experiences between Angolan and European public institutions and approved the opening of three new calls for proposals.
In the period between November 2019 and April 2024, the first phase of the project, 15 Dialogue Actions were promoted, registering 4000 participations in more than 300 activities and meetings, which resulted in 10 studies and publications, 13 study visits and seven good practice seminars.
Technical Assistance promoted 46 training and capacity building initiatives, which benefited more than 300 members of the public administration, focusing mainly on the creation and management of projects and technical support to institutions.
"The Project Steering Committee concluded that this first phase tested approaches for the successful operation of the project, opened important public policy dialogues between Angolan and European institutions and consolidated close bilateral relations between these organizations", states the press release .
In particular, the support of the EU-Angola Dialogue Facility for the Assessment of Public Financial Management (PEFA – Public Expenditure and Financing Accountability) stands out, "a cornerstone for the attribution of the first EU budgetary support to the Government of Angola, which allowed us to obtain an in-depth view of the state of public financial management and identify areas that can be reinforced to improve the sector".
The Dialogue Actions covered six of the priority thematic areas of the Angola-European Union Joint Path agreement: Peace and Security; Angolan Navy and Portuguese Navy – Technical Training in the field of maritime security; Good Governance and Human Rights; Economic Growth and Sustainable Development; Science and Technology and Education and Training.
The EU-Angola Dialogue Facility is a project financed by the European Development Fund and is also an instrument of cooperation between the European Union and Angola, which aims to support actions promoted by Angolan and European institutions to deepen the regular exchange of knowledge and good practices in the areas defined by the Angola-EU Joint Path Agreement, with impact and relevance for the National Development Plan and the Angola 2050 Long-Term Strategy.
