On the occasion, the Government of the United States of America expressed its commitment to building "consistent democratic values" in African countries, including Angola, with the launch of the aforementioned program.

According to the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Angola, Mary Emma Arnold, POPRID, focused on promoting representative multi-party systems, appears within the framework of three pillars of the Biden administration's engagement, especially in Angola, namely, economic prosperity, security and good governance, falling within the latter, which consists of supporting "Angolan partners in the development of instruments necessary for the continuous strengthening of the country's democratic institutions".

"Our objective is to provide the tools through programs like this, from political parties for a resilient and inclusive democracy", said Mary Emma Arnold, at the program's presentation ceremony, which was attended by members of the Angolan Government and leaders politicians.

According to the North American diplomat, POPRID, a regional program that will be implemented with the organization Democracy Works Foundation (DWF), "is another tool for building democracy and consistent democratic values in the countries covered".

"Through this program we promote the creation of an inter-party platform, where political parties can come together to discuss relevant issues about the country outside the parliamentary space", she highlighted.

POPRID includes the training of around 1000 people, including 282 women, mainly linked to political parties, with topics linked to the legal framework governing general elections and the role of digital technology in elections.

Strategic planning for elections and the participation and inclusion of young women and people with disabilities in elections are also among the topics covered by the program.

"These topics are relevant to all political parties in their work to obtain more effective results for the citizens of Angola", highlighted Emma Arnold.

According to the diplomat, the program, focused on supporting political parties in the region, must have three lines of approach, namely inter-party dialogue specific to each country, regional inter-party dialogue and direct assistance to strengthen political parties.

"This strategy aims to provide an opportunity for political parties to find solutions on development and governance issues of common interest, as well as strengthening democratic institutions that effectively contribute to the well-being and prosperity of citizens", concluded the official.
