US launches 10 million dollar program in Luanda to support political parties

The Government of the United States of America (USA) announced, this Monday, that it will launch a regional program, which includes Angola, worth around 10 million dollars, to promote representative multi-party systems.

In a statement, the US Embassy in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe states that the Program to Support Political Parties for a Resilient and Inclusive Democracy (POPRID), financed by the Agency for International Development (USAID), will be launched Wednesday, in Luanda, and in Angola, it will be implemented in partnership with the Government and political parties with parliamentary seats.

The program, of a regional nature, will be implemented with the organization Democracy Works Foundation (DWF) and aims to "support the development of democratic political parties that respond to the needs of citizens and are capable of developing effective policies in Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and South Africa".

The launch will be carried out by the minister counselor of the US Embassy in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, Mea Arnold, leaders of the Angolan executive and representatives of the country's political parties.
