Government wants to transform visa for CPLP immigrants into community visa

The Portuguese Government's Action Plan for Migration provides for the transformation of the current mobility visa for immigrants from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) into a community visa (Shengen), which allows them to travel around the European Union.

:

The mobility agreement concluded represents “a commitment that Portugal must not only maintain, but also commit to implementing the necessary improvements”, so that “access to the Shchegen Space for holders of CPLP residence permits” is allowed. , can be read in the document presented this Monday, after the Council of Ministers on migration.

In this sense, the Government will administratively extend CPLP visas for one year, which begin to expire at the end of this month, “to improve monitoring of the terms of responsibility presented under the means of subsistence demonstration mechanism, in order to identify and combat possible fraud situations”.

Of the 400,000 pending immigrant cases, a large part relates to CPLP citizens who managed to regularize themselves in Portugal through a mobility visa.

In the services of the Agency for Migration and Asylum Integration (AIMA), an online space will be opened for Portuguese-speaking citizens to process their process, with the aim of “streamlining procedures relating to appointments for the purpose of submitting visa applications”.

One of the criticisms of CPLP visas and one of the reasons for the case being filed in European courts against Portugal is related to the fact that these documents are only valid within the national territory, creating a problem in supervision with other countries in the Schengen area.

In the document, the executive also commits to developing a “national plan for the implementation of the European Union’s Pact for Migration and Asylum”.
