"The diversification of Angola's economy ends up happening with Portuguese companies. Things will change. On a day-to-day basis, perhaps we don't feel changes, but Angola is moving. It's a reality, a success story", he stated, quoted by Jornal Económico.
Regarding financing, João Traça stated that, if diversification is to be achieved, it has to be directed "towards different types of investment".
Thus, he pointed out that "there is no investment without financing", whose origin can be from international organizations such as the "European Investment Bank, the World Bank". However, he added, "it is necessary to ask whether Portugal should create mechanisms to allow investment with other characteristics".
"Financing is directed to the public works sector. Shouldn't we direct it to agriculture, industry? If we want diversification, financing has to go to different types of investment", he added.
"When we talk about the new airport in Luanda, in the Lobito Corridor. The results will appear, there is a problem that is the current context. The economic cycles in which Angola grew are not there at the moment. A country cannot always be growing that pace. Its great dependence on the oil sector has a great weight. The countries need time to recover, Angola needs time, with the help of Portuguese companies, with a lot of investment", he said, quoted by Jornal Económico.
Regarding the oil sector, the president of CCIPA considered that this domain has a "significant weight", with Portuguese companies "not the champions in this sector", but "in everything else, Portuguese companies manage to be present".
"They have an enormous capacity to be able to collaborate with Angolan companies. And they have the capacity to be able to have a long-term vision of presence in Angola", he added.
