Videos are being shared on social networks showing crowded taxi stops, taxi drivers stopped and motorcycle taxi drivers demonstrating, one of which a bus with burning tires, in the locality of Nambambe, Lubango, capital of Huíla province.

A call for civil society groups from Huíla, published on social media, reports that there will be a march on June 10 against the rise in fuel prices and against the proposed law that aims to control the functioning of Non-Governmental Organizations.

On Thursday, the Government announced the gradual withdrawal of the fuel subsidy, which began with gasoline, but exempting taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, fishing and agriculture.

To taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers, licensed artisanal fishing vessels, the Government promised to deliver personalized cards, with a daily ceiling of 7000 kwanzas, which will cover the difference between 160 kwanzas per liter of gasoline and the current 300 kwanzas per liter of gasoline.

According to the Government, the exemption for this class and the non-change in the price of diesel was intended to protect families and the rise in prices of the basic food basket, as well as to allow for social improvements.
