Portuguese loses his life in Namibe after falling into a quarry

A Portuguese citizen died in the province of Namibe, after falling from a block of granite, in a quarry belonging to the Marlin company, informed the police authorities, who are awaiting the result of the autopsy.

Speaking to Lusa, the spokesman for the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Namibe province, José Lolina, said that the incident, which killed the 55-year-old Portuguese man, took place on Monday in Kilemba Velha, in the municipality of Bibala. .

"That Portuguese citizen was working on top of a granite block, where he was taking measurements and, supposedly, from the information we collected, he was careless and fell hitting his head", he said.

Following the fatal fall, the victim's colleagues immediately called the local SIC, which together with the firefighters, after all the steps, removed the body to the Central Hospital of Lubango, where he resided with family members, he stressed.

According to the SIC spokesman in Namibe, relatives of the victim requested an autopsy to assess the real causes of death of the Portuguese citizen.

"When family members ask for an autopsy, it is because they suspect something and we, the SIC, have to respond, so the conditions were created and today the autopsy will have been carried out and we are waiting for the result", he explained.

José Lolina also realized that this was the first time that an accident of the kind happened in that company that explores ornamental rocks.

According to information available on its website, Marlin was founded in 2009 and established itself in Chibia, Huíla province, next to a gray granite quarry, specializing in the exploration of quarries and the production of sheet metal, floor tiles of floors and masonry, artefacts and monuments, in granite and marble.

Marlin is linked to the Tuamatunga business group, which operates in various civil construction sectors.
