Téte António considers historic moment Quadripartite Summit on peace in DRC

The Minister of Foreign Affairs considered this Monday as historic the ministerial meeting for the Quadripartite Summit of Heads of State and Government, on Tuesday, in Luanda, for the resolution of the conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo).

Speaking at the opening of the preparatory work session for the Quadripartite Summit in Luanda, Téte António classified the meeting as historic for bringing together four communities and regional mechanisms, under the auspices of the African Union and the participation of the United Nations.

A Quadripartite Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (IRGL) and a United Nations body is scheduled for Tuesday.

Cross-cutting issues on the African continent, above all the conflict in eastern DR Congo, should dominate the work at this meeting in Luanda.

According to the official, quoted in a communiqué from the governing body, the presence of individuals from the bodies in Luanda reflects the meaning that peace, security and political stability in the Great Lakes region have for each of the organisations.

An expert report on the Joint and Consolidated Master Plan of the Multi-Level Coordination Group and the draft summit communiqué were also under consideration at the ministerial meeting.

The Quadripartite Summit also aims to "reinforce the coordination and harmonization of engagements with which each of these organizations has been contributing to peace in the region, avoiding duplication of efforts and optimizing initiatives and resources".
