Future governor of the BNA heard in the National Assembly

The candidate nominated by the President of the Republic for governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Tiago Dias, will be heard this Friday at the National Assembly on his future duties.

:

A note from the National Assembly states that the prior hearing of the candidate for governor of the BNA aims to "confer democratic legitimacy" to the appointment of Manuel Tiago Dias, assessing "the suitability, management capacity, technical competence and recognized experience in economics, law, accounting, candidate's banking, finance and management".

Manuel Tiago Dias, current interim governor of the BNA, was appointed by the Angolan President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to take over the destinies of the central bank, replacing José de Lima Massano, who recently resigned from his mandate.

In the parliamentary session, deputies will be able to question the candidate about "the nature, functions, constitutional and legal competences attributed to the National Bank, as well as about the legally required impediments and ineligibility for the exercise of the function".

Manuel António Tiago Dias holds a Master's Degree in Economic Sciences from the University of Bordeaux, in France. He joined the BNA in 1997, where he held various roles until his appointment, in 2016, to deputy governor, a role he held until 2023, before being appointed to the recent position of interim governor of the central bank of Angola.
