Oldest deputy assumes temporary leadership of the BNA

The deputy governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Dias, takes over the interim leadership of the central bank, following the appointment of José de Lima Massano as Minister of State for Economic Coordination.

:

A note from the BNA refers that the position of senior vice-governor in office at the Angolan central bank puts Manuel António Tiago Dias in a position to temporarily direct the regulatory body.

José de Lima Massano was appointed, on Thursday, Minister of State for Economic Coordination, after being exonerated at his request by the President, according to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic.

The former governor, who replaced Manuel Nunes Júnior in office, took office, having as his main challenge economic diversification and, immediately, the issue of fuel subsidies, namely the process of attributing gasoline subsidy cards to taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers and artisanal fishing boats.

The Government announced, a week ago, the gradual withdrawal of gasoline subsidies, maintaining the subsidy to the agricultural sector and fishing, which made gasoline increase, immediately, from 160 kwanzas to 300 kwanzas.

José de Lima Massano served as governor of the BNA from 2010 to 2015, and from December 2022 to Thursday, with six years as chairman of the Executive Committee of Banco Angolano de Investimento (BAI), a function which he exercised before and after his first term at the central bank.
