REA's management says that the reserve is fulfilling its mission and managing to keep the prices of the main products of the basic basket low.
Moving forward with the forecast of product prices for the week of June 6th to 12th, REA estimates that the price of a 25kg bag of wheat flour will suffer a reduction from 23,933 to 8,550 kwanzas (-62.9 percent), the of corn, also in a 25kg bag, will drop from 13,800 to 6,000 kwanzas (-56.5 percent), while sugar, in a 50 kg bag, will cost 18,700 kwanzas instead of the 24,200 registered in November 2021 (-22.7 percent).
Also according to the weekly information provided by the REA, the price of Thai rice, in a 25kg bag, will decrease from 11,737 to 6,500 kwanzas (-44.6 percent), soybean oil (12 liters) will drop from 17,450 kwanzas to 11,000 kwanzas (-37 percent) and the 25 kg bag of pinto beans will reach 19,950 kwanzas instead of the 24,000 kwanzas that were already needed to buy the food (- 16.9 percent).
A reduction in the price of a 10kg box of chicken thighs is also expected, which should cost 7,100 kwanzas, against the already registered 10,190 kwanzas (-30.3 percent).
The reserve recalls that prices are a reference for the national territory, thus reflecting a generalized drop of 37.3 percent compared to November 2021. This comparison is made taking into account the period in which the Strategic Food Reserve.
The REA intervenes so that all Angolans have access to the basic foods of their diet at fair prices, avoiding scarcity and price speculation, says the management of the mechanism.
