MPLA will review list of candidates for deputies to the National Assembly

The members of the central committee of the MPLA, the ruling party in Angola, will this Thursday vote on a resolution on changes to adjustments in the list of candidates for the National Assembly, released last week.

The information was provided by the leader of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), João Lourenço, at the opening of the second extraordinary meeting of the party's central committee.

"The first point must be: resolution on changes of adjustments to be introduced in the list of candidates, the second point, presentation of the Government's program project and electoral manifest, finally, approval of the final documents", said João Lourenço, when referring to the agenda of the meeting, published by public radio.

At the second extraordinary meeting of the MPLA central committee, which was preceded by a meeting of the party's political bureau, the preliminary drafts of the governance program and the electoral manifesto for the period 2022-2027 will be discussed and approved.

Last week, in the first extraordinary meeting, the members of the central committee approved a list of candidates for deputies to the National Assembly, which presents the leader of the party, João Lourenço, as the candidate for vice-president Esperança as the head of the list and candidate for the presidency. Costa, current Secretary of State for Fisheries, and candidate for President of the National Assembly Carolina Cerqueira, current Minister of State for the Social Area.

Angola will hold its fifth general election in August this year, with a meeting of the Council of the Republic being scheduled for Friday, at which the proposal for a date for its convening by the President of the Republic should be known.
