Covid-19: Angola announces 74 new cases and three deaths in the last 24 hours

Angola has recorded 74 new infections, three deaths, and 87 recoveries in the last 24 hours, making a total of 37,678 positive cases, 859 deaths, and 31,676 recoveries, the Health Ministry said.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health, the country recorded the new cases in the provinces of Luanda (40), Huíla (20), Huambo (8), Benguela (3), Zaire (2) and Cunene (1), with the infected aged between one and 81 years, being 37 males and an equal number of females.

The deaths reported in the period under review are two males and one female, aged between 35 and 88 years, recorded in the provinces of Luanda, Cunene and Lunda Sul.

In terms of recoveries, 75 occurred in Luanda, eight in Huíla and four in Huambo, in people aged between one and 80 years.

The data released this Sunday indicates that the country has 5143 active cases, of which 18 in critical condition, 28 severe, 35 moderate, 36 light, and 5026 asymptomatic, being in hospital 117 people, in institutional quarantine 77 others and, under epidemiological surveillance, 2368 contacts.

The laboratories processed 831 samples by RTP-CR, pointing the cumulative to 627,269 samples processed to date, with a positivity rate of 6 percent, and, at the entry and exit points of Luanda, 59 people were tested on the basis of the antigen test.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,862,364 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 178.1 million cases of infection, according to an assessment made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
