Works to clear traffic in the capital in the final stretch

The Minister of Public Works and Territorial Planning, Manuel Tavares, revealed that the works underway to free up traffic in various areas of the capital are almost concluded.

The information was provided at the end of a visit to the works. The governor verified the state of the works on Soba Mandume street, in Rangel, Patriota and Talatona areas, the rehabilitation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the infrastructures of 10 thousand houses in Kilamba Centrality, among others.

According to the governor, cited by Jornal de Angola, the rhythm of the works is in a good path, allowing to note that the works are already in the final stretch.

According to Manuel Tavares, some works were stalled for financial reasons. However, the minister informed that this problem has been overcome, "because the Ministry of Finance has guaranteed to do so in the next few days, with financing from two different sources, in kwanzas and in foreign currency".

Considering that these payments will accelerate the works, the minister admitted that these will be made according to the execution, since there are no advance payments.

Among the works that have been stalled is the Soba Mandume street. Since 2016, the circulation on this street was closed. The works were expected to last a year, however, for technical and financial issues ended up dragging and taking almost five years to be completed.

However, the circulation was restored this Tuesday. The works are 95 percent complete, with only public lighting still to be installed.

The holder of the Public Works and Territorial Planning portfolio took the opportunity to announce the opening of one of the underpasses at the PMU Node, next month.

"The country has direction and the direction is made with the opening of roads. These infrastructures will solve the traffic problem in Luanda. The UGP Node at this moment is 69 percent concluded," he said, cited by Jornal de Angola.

Regarding the Corimba viaduct, the minister said that work was 82 percent complete, adding that work on the Patriota and Talatona viaducts was at an advanced stage and should be delivered in October.
