Among the main complaints of Angolans is the difficulty in buying food, the loss of validity of visas that lead to the freezing of bank accounts and the difficulty in paying rents. For this reason, citizens have called on Angola to be repatriated as soon as possible.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Angola's Deputy Consul General in Johannesburg, Nuno Benguela, the representatives justified the request by stating that the lack of resources in South Africa has worsened the conditions of Angolans both economically and socially.
Cited by Jornal de Angola, the ambassador assured that the Ministries of Health, Foreign Affairs and the multisectoral commission for covid-19 have already been alerted to this problem and that they will "define the ways, methods and criteria for returning to the country".
According to figures from the Angolan embassy in Pretoria, there are more than 600 Angolans who want to return to their home country. The data also indicate that there are no Angolans infected with covid-19 in South Africa.
