Covid-19: seven new positive cases increase total to 183

The Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced this Sunday seven new cases of covid-19 in Angola, which now total 183 infections, of which 11 have recovered.

In the usual epidemiological assessment, Franco Mufinda said that two of these cases are of local transmission and one is imported (a US citizen who arrived in the country on 11 June and was quarantined), and the transmission link of the rest is being studied.

Among the 183 infected, 118 cases are of local contamination.

In total, there are 97 active cases, 77 recovered and nine deaths.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 464,000 lives and infected more than 8.8 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

In Africa, there are 7925 confirmed deaths in more than 297,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics from that continent.

Among the African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Equatorial Guinea leads in number of infections and deaths (1664 cases and 32 deaths), followed by Guinea-Bissau (1541 cases and 17 deaths), Cape Verde (890 cases and eight deaths), São Tomé and Príncipe (693 cases and 12 deaths), Mozambique (733 cases and five deaths) and Angola (183 infected and nine deaths).
