The holder of the Interior portfolio advanced that, during the current situation of public calamity, between 13 and 20 June, there are 27,199 personnel of the organs of defense and security on the ground, with 33,817 actions of awareness, 9914 ostensible policing of persuasion, 2888 traffic barriers and 1914 dispersions of agglomerations for non-compliance with biosecurity measures, which resulted in the arrest of 918 citizens.

The minister stressed that the forces will continue their operational tactical actions focused on compliance with the measures decreed for the disaster situation and fighting crime throughout the country.

The actions of the police during the various stages of compliance with measures to prevent and combat the covid-19 pandemic have been criticized by civil society due to the excessive use of force, taking into account the various incidents involving police and citizens, which resulted in at least five deaths, according to the count made by Lusa.

Eugénio Laborinho stressed that the staff of the Interior Ministry "have always consented to many sacrifices for the superior interest of the nation and the satisfaction of collective needs.

"Sacrifices that have led many of our trench fellow countrymen to lose their lives in the fulfillment of the mission, so we take advantage of this moment to honor their achievements," he said.

According to the minister, in the last three years there have been 129 incidents, in which police personnel have been victims of gunfire, resulting in 37 deaths and 92 injured.
