Police kill woman in attempt to disperse popular in Huila

A woman was shot dead by a national police officer in the municipality of Caluquembe, Huíla province, following shots fired to respond to an alleged stoning by popular people, a police source said on Monday.


A press release from the local police said that the incident occurred on Saturday, when the police were trying to disperse traders from an irregular market in the Campo da Aviação neighborhood.

"In an attempt to contain the violence and disperse the angry citizens with the shots in the air, the agent will have become unbalanced in the patrol vehicle in motion and the shot came to hit the 32-year-old citizen in the chest region… ] causing him immediate death ", explains the note.

According to the police, the family was contacted and together with the administration the proper support for the funeral will be provided and an investigation process was opened to ascertain the circumstances of the shooting.

Preceding this incident, there is a report of the death of other citizens by the police, in the provinces of Luanda, Benguela and Lunda Norte, the latter involving a soldier from the Angolan Armed Forces, in actions of attempt to disperse the popular.
