In statements to Angolan public radio, Cirineu de Jesus André Francisco, author of "A Kandengue do Golungo e o livro que não tinha fim", acknowledged that the work was the result of a plagiarism of the "Endless Book" by Brazilian Sandra Aymone.
"I am here to ask forgiveness from the Angolan public, in fact I am sorry and I hope it will not happen again with another author, because in fact at this moment I find myself literally dead by the bombings of information that come to me," he said.
The jury of the Children's Book Garden Literary Prize decided to annul the results of the 2020 edition for noting "gross plagiarism, lack of intellectual honesty and attempted deception" by the winner who copied a Brazilian work.
The National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries, in a press release sent to Lusa, states that the position stems from the fact that the prize jury was alerted that the winning work is the result of plagiarism.
According to the Angolan Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment, the winner of the award Minango Ya Nzambi, pseudonym of Cirineu de Jesus André Francisco, "plagiarised in its entirety" the book by Brazilian Sandra Aymone, published in 2015.
The prize regulations state that the works submitted to the competition must be original, unpublished and of their own creation, so according to the jury "there was a violation of this clause, so the prize will not be awarded to a winner".
The award ceremony for this annual competition was scheduled for 25 June. The annual prize is 500,000 kwanzas.
