SOBA promotes first paid online concerts to support artists and content creators

Angola held the first paid online concerts and shows to "help artists and content creators to monetize their digital works", due to covid-19, announced SOBA, the project's mentor.

The first online concert paid in Angola, by Internet users, was held on 30 May and the last three took place over the weekend. Overall, more than 200 people purchased tickets online at www.soba-store.com.

"It is a project whose main objective is to help artists and content creators in general to make their work more profitable, also to educate the population that makes use of the Internet, who has purchasing power, to consume material paid online and in kwanzas" , said to Lusa Cláudio Fernando Kiala, from SOBA Empreendimentos.

According to the rapper, also known as CFKAPPA, the firm, which manages the SOBA Channel platform, is accredited by the bank and has a payment structure that allows "any Internet user to have a digital wallet for free".

The mechanism aims to "reach those people who fall into this group and allow them to generate in them an ease and need to consume paid material made in Angola, from concerts, speakers and other online content", he said.

Cláudio Fernando Kiala stressed that all SOBA Channel content is limited to existing tickets and "exclusively private for the people who purchase them".

"This specifically allows each person who buys through our platform to automatically receive, without any human intervention, a specific link to access the room, with a password, and which allows us to have a multifaceted event", he added.

The first paid online concert in Angola featured the musician CFKAPPA, with musician Kizua Gourgel, comedian Gilmário Vemba and DJ Ritchelly and Vado Mix performing last weekend.

Artists and producers warned, in late April, that they have "difficulties in surviving" in this period of social confinement and canceled cultural activities, due to the covid-19 pandemic, defending support from the authorities and "urgent application" of copyright.

However, to address the difficulties of the artists, the National Union of Artists and Composers (UNAC) started in May to distribute basic food baskets to the most needy artists.
