Flavio Amado replaces Ricardo Chéu in command of Petro de Luanda

Angolan coach Flávio Amado was presented on Friday as the new coach of Petro de Luanda, replacing Portuguese Ricardo Chéu, who was fired.

Flávio Amado, a former Petro de Luanda and national football team forward, has returned to the club after taking charge of São Salvador do Zaire, where he spent eight months.

Petro de Luanda terminated its contract with Portuguese coach Ricardo Chéu on Friday, by mutual agreement, two days after the team was eliminated from the Angolan Football Cup.

Chéu signed with the club a year ago, before the start of the current 2024/2025 season, replacing his compatriot Alexandre Santos.

The Portuguese coach was the target of much criticism from the club's members, fans and the press, due to the team's premature exit from the African Football League in September, despite having won the Angolan Super Cup.

A smiling debut for Flávio Amado

In his first match as coach of the team, Flávio Amado left smiling and with a comfortable victory of 3 goals to nil. Petro beat Académica do Lobito this Sunday, with two goals from Aparício and one from Gilberto, thus maintaining the lead in the championship with just two rounds to go.
