World Bank resumes financing of employment program. Government wants to re-equip training centers

The Executive will implement, at a national level, the Employment and Opportunities Project for Young People in Angola, which is expected to benefit around 500 thousand citizens, 40 percent of whom are women and six percent of whom are people with disabilities.

The project, with World Bank funding of US$250 million until 2029, aims to support interventions that improve employment, productivity, income and professional experience of young people.

The matter was addressed this Tuesday, in Luanda, during the 4th Ordinary Meeting of the Commission for Social Policy of the Council of Ministers, under the guidance of the Minister of State for the Social Area, Maria Bragança.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, Teresa Rodrigues, informed the press that, in addition to this employment project, the Executive will re-equip professional training centers to be in line with market needs.

“We have some robots, we have some machinery and equipment, which was very sophisticated at the time, but is now discontinued,” explained the minister, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

The re-equipment of the centers requires the training component of technicians and, to this end, according to Teresa Rodrigues, it is expected to train around 500 thousand young people, in phases, with social sector projects financed by the World Bank (WB) and the African Development Bank (ADB).

During the session, the Commission took stock of the status of social sector projects financed by international partners, highlighting the progress achieved, the challenges faced and the prospects for strengthening cooperation this year.

Minister Teresa Rodrigues clarified that this cooperation is expected to provide opportunities for producers, employability kits, internships and employment opportunities in line with current market needs, such as digital jobs, startups, and in the field of infrastructure.
