"We have an interaction here of mutual interest and of the Angola-Mozambique partnership. This is the first of several visits that will take place regarding the Mozambique-Angola operation [in] banking and insurance and our ecosystem", Sofia Chival, president of Prefira Seguros, a Mozambican resident in Angola for 17 years, told the media.
Chival said that there are "many models of cooperation" between Mozambique and Angola, highlighting a "very good" relationship between the two Portuguese-speaking African countries, also alluding to the recent visit of the Mozambican head of state, Daniel Chapo, to that country.
"We came here to show that we also have an interest in Mozambique, in terms of investment (...). We have a very good cultural and brotherly relationship", stressed Sofia Chival.
The executive added that, in addition to banking and insurance, the businesspeople also intend to cooperate in the areas of real estate, digital technology, mining, renewable energy and tourism, among others.
In the banking sector, Angola is considering establishing Banco Yetu in Mozambique, a proposal that Mozambican businesspeople see as an opportunity to expand financial services in the country, whose market is "quite vast".
"We believe that the greater the number of banks in our market, the better it will be for customers (...), so we have to expand the operating base of banks or financial services and this Yetu group has shown itself to be very willing to explore the Mozambican market", said Onório Manuel, vice-president of CTA, adding that the Angolan bank also wants to explore the country's real estate sector.
"They also want to look very specifically at the real estate sector. As you know, we have a generalized crisis in the real estate sector", said Mozambican Onório Manuel, after meeting with a "very strong group" from Angola.
