The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, announced, after visiting Luanda, that his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, will visit Mozambique, outlining the objective of strengthening relations between the two countries.

:

“We take this opportunity to invite President João Lourenço, my brother, from Angola, to be with us at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Mozambique [June 25, 1975] and we extend an invitation regarding the need to also visit Mozambique,” announced Chapo, when taking stock of the working visit he made to Luanda over the last two days.

“The invitation has already been accepted, it is our responsibility, on both sides, to arrange this visit, through diplomatic channels, to set the date, so that we can receive the Angolan head of state in Mozambique, as two brother countries, two brother peoples, so that together we can continue working on the development of our countries and continue creating better living conditions for our populations,” added Daniel Chapo.

The Mozambican head of state said that it was a “very positive visit” and “with concrete results”, namely the signing of five legal instruments, on Friday, in Luanda, between the two governments, to strengthen cooperation in the areas of transport, culture, social action and tourism.

At the end of the visit, Daniel Chapo also said that the possibility of interconnection between the Lobito railway corridor (which connects to the Atlantic Ocean) and the Beira and Nacala railway corridors (Mozambique, which connect to the Indian Ocean) was discussed during this visit, in turn interconnecting several countries in southern Africa.

According to the Angola-Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIAM), in 2024, trade between the two countries reached the paltry value of around 10 million dollars.
