Gross credit to the non-financial sector grew 22 percent in April

Gross credit to the non-financial sector grew 22 percent in April, compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 7.8 trillion kwanzas, the National Bank of Angola (BNA) announced this Friday.

The debt of the private sector (companies and individuals) represented the largest share (87.2 percent), with the remainder being debt related to the public sector (public administration and public companies).

According to the BNA's statistical information note, the "stock of credit to the economy in national currency reached 6.3 billion kwanzas in April, having registered an increase of 1.6 billion kwanzas compared to December 2024.

During this period, the non-financial public sector's debt totaled 1 billion kwanzas, of which 64.5 percent was related to the public administration and 35.5 percent to public companies.

According to the BNA, gross credit to the real sector of the economy, that is, loans directed to the production of goods and services, totaled 1.6 billion kwanzas in April, an increase of 258.1 billion kwanzas, "driven, above all, by the increase in resources made available to the extractive industry subsector".

Total credit granted to promote the real sector reached 1.3 trillion kwanzas, representing 85.54 percent of total credit granted to this sector and 17.3 percent of the gross credit portfolio of the Angolan banking system, an increase of 22.1 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
