Ana Dias Lourenço says that “education is vital for the future of any country”

“Education is vital to the future of any country.” The consideration comes from Ana Dias Lourenço, First Lady of the Republic, who spoke, this Monday, in Nigeria, as part of the launch of the ‘WeAreEqual/Somos Todos Iguais’ campaign.

According to the First Lady of the Republic, in the country, education is treated as "a crucial sector for the valorization of human capital".

"In Angola, we treat education as a determining sector for the valorization of human capital. We take particular care with the education of girls, as educating a woman is educating a Nation", she said, having also defended the strengthening of advocacy for literacy, as well as catching up on school delays for girls, especially in rural areas, writes Jornal de Angola.

"We urgently need to promote trust, security and stability by creating safe, secure and stable environments and sensitizing youth to the significant progress in the development and growth of Africa that we want," she said.

Greater investment in citizens, through quality education, with increased access to pre-school and secondary education, especially for girls, "is essential so that, with determination and vision, we can effectively, men and women, contribute for the sustainability of our development with an innovative approach and an unshakable commitment to the well-being of communities", considered Ana Dias Lourenço, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

According to the First Lady of the Republic, since 2021, the Girl's Empowerment and Learning for All Project has been implemented in the country, which comprises approximately nine million students in pre-school, primary and secondary.

The project consists of training teachers and school managers, as well as providing support to strategies that aim to promote girls' empowerment: "The project aims to train teachers and school managers, support strategies to promote girls' empowerment through improving educational system and access to education, empowering girls and young women, giving them the opportunity to enroll in and complete at least secondary education", she explained.

On the occasion, among other aspects, the first lady of the republic also highlighted the Government's commitment to inclusive and equitable education, with the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all, writes Angop.

It should be noted that the launch of the campaign took place under the theme "Education, a powerful tool for change: no girl should be left behind".

"The event, promoted by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olumeri Tinubu, aims to contribute to the elimination of gender disparities through education, equity and learning opportunities for all, within the scope campaign by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), originally formed as the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS", reads a Government note to which VerAngola had access.

Thus, the aforementioned initiative highlights the expansion of the 'Alternative Secondary School for Girls' "in all states of Nigeria, to provide a second opportunity for education to young people facing adversities such as early pregnancy, economic marginalization and child marriage", being that the first ladies of the Member States of the African Union "were invited to launch the campaign in their countries during the year 2024, based on four pillars, specifically health, education, economic empowerment and gender-based violence".
