Coffee, honey, pineapple, banana and wood are the products with the most export potential

Agricultural and fishing products were identified by the Trade Assistance Program in Angola (ACOM), financed by the European Union, as potential goods that could contribute to developing the export process in the country.

The information was provided by consultant Samuel Zita, as he presented the results achieved by the project in the period between 2016 and 2023. The person responsible explained that the survey to arrive at these products resulted from research carried out by several specialists.

He also highlighted that the research benefited from the negotiation process of Angola's tariff offer at the level of the Free Trade Area of the Southern African Development Community.

However, the expert reinforced the need to create, based on concrete plans, an objective basis for the country's development in these terms. He stated that the private sector should mobilize or attract investments to these areas, contributing to the development not only of commerce, but also of the country.

“With private investment, the ultimate objective will be to produce, satisfy the needs of the domestic market and export the surplus, a fact that will create more jobs in the country,” he said, quoted by Angop.

The Secretary of State for Commerce, Augusta Fortes, said that the financial resources made available by the EU for technical assistance and studies in the area reached 8.5 million euros. She further added that the program benefited more than 6000 people from the public, private, education and NGO sectors.

ACOM provided technical assistance to the Government and public bodies that aim to implement the Trade Agenda in the country, as well as to different national entities directly or indirectly linked to the sector.

The minister recognized the contribution of the program, having pointed to the creation of the Private Investment Law and the proposal for the Foreign Trade Regulation as fundamental factors in strengthening exports from the non-oil sector.

She also recalled that the Government promotes production and diversification of products for export.
