In a note of repudiation, the union condemns the "abuse of authority" demonstrated by the RNA board of directors for attempting to prevent a workers' assembly, scheduled for this Friday, "legally convened" and "timely" communicated to the president of the organ.
For the union, the attitude of the state radio administration, which only provided space for the meeting minutes before it took place, without any minimum conditions for it to take place, constitutes a “deliberate desire to restrict trade union freedom”.
The union cites an order dated Friday and signed by the director of the office of the president of the board of directors, in which the employer considered that it would not be possible to hold the assembly at the RNA facilities, in Luanda, as “supposedly it coincides with work hours.”
The union described the attitude of the RNA administration as “manifest subterfuge” to prevent the meeting from taking place, highlighting that such a stance violates union law.
The union also regretted, in the note signed by its general secretary, Teixeira Cândido, that the decision came from a body made up “mostly of journalists”.
According to the call to which Lusa had access, a possible general strike was the main point on the agenda of this assembly.
The RNA public broadcasting service, supervised by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, has four national radio stations, 18 provincial radio stations, one international channel, three municipal radio stations and two regional stations.
