The complaint of an alleged "shooting attack" against Carlos Xavier Lucas, elected by the Malanje provincial circle, was made by fellow member Sampaio Mucanda, on the social network Facebook.
According to Sampaio Mucanda, the vehicle in which the deputy was traveling was shot by a motorcyclist, at around 2:15 pm.
The deputy "was accompanied by his escort", describes Sampaio Mucanda, adding that Xavier Lucas was not injured, having gone to the Malanje Provincial Hospital for observation, following the trauma.
According to the National Police delegation in Malanje, "the shots that hit the vehicle in which the deputy was being transported to the National Assembly were aimed at a businessman who was there and not the deputy".
The data was presented at a press conference that is taking place and published on the Ministry of the Interior's Facebook page.
In a note sent to the press this Tuesday, the National Assembly said it had taken note of the situation "with great concern" and regretted what had happened, awaiting "detailed information from the competent bodies".
In a statement, the police stated, however, that the vehicle carrying the UNITA deputy was hit during an attempted robbery of a West African businessman, and efforts are underway to capture the perpetrators of the crime.
Police authorities refer to an attempted robbery against a West African citizen, who was shot.
The man in question, who was leaving a market in his vehicle, was stopped by four individuals who were traveling on two motorbikes and demanded money from him, after which they fired shots that hit him in the head and leg, the statement said.
Two of the shots hit a second vehicle, belonging to the UNITA deputy, which crashed and collided with a bus that was at the scene, with no damage to the occupants, it adds.
According to the police, the West African citizen was treated at Malanje hospital and assistance was provided to the deputy, and efforts are underway to “completely clarify the facts and capture the presumed perpetrators of the crime”.
