The information was provided this Thursday, in Luanda, by the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, at the end of the hearing granted by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa and the global director of “Nature Bonds, Land Protection , Freshwaters and Oceans”, Melissa Garvey.

Ana Paula de Carvalho informed that work is underway so that the classification can be completed next year, while work is also underway in the marine conservation area of the municipality of Tômbwa, Namibe province.

The minister announced the existence of the conservation areas of Luengue-Luiana, Mavinga, in the province of Cuando Bango, and the Cameia National Park, in Moxico.

Regarding the situation of water resources, Ana Paula de Carvalho clarified that the country has many rivers and that survey work has already begun in the province of Huambo.

“We want to continue and look particularly, (…) now at these two provinces, both Cuando Cubango and Moxico, so that we can not only do the work focused on biodiversity, but also to survey the status of these water resources ”, he stated, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

The National Biodiversity Strategy, whose actions run until 2025, should be reviewed and extended until 2050, according to the minister. “There has already been implementation, but we need to continue, at least until 2050”, she stressed.

In turn, the global director of “Nature Bonds, Protection of Lands, Freshwaters and Oceans”, accompanied at the hearing by the director of the Okavango-Zambezi Project, Sekgowa Motsumi, said that one of the organization's objectives is to finance potential biodiversity and supporting communities. “There are different approaches that can be used, different financial mechanisms, and we have comprehensively discussed all of these possibilities,” said Melissa Garvey.
