Luena will have a photovoltaic solar energy park from Friday

With an installed power of 25.3 MWp (MegaWatts-peak), which will allow the supply of almost 60,000 people, the Luena Photovoltaic Solar Energy Park, in the province of Moxico, will be officially completed at the end of the week, announced the Ministry of Energy and Water.

This source of clean energy, which should guarantee uninterrupted supply to the population, cost around 36.9 million euros, and the project includes 43,680 solar panels.

Currently, the production of electrical energy to supply the city of Luena is done through the Tchiumbwe-Dala Hydro Plant, with 12.4 MW available, the Luena 2 Thermal Power Plant, with 4.4 MW available, and Luena 3 (WARTSILA) with 10 MW available.

In this way, the Government says it has sought to diversify the national energy matrix - based on the 'Energia Angola 2025' plan - ensuring that 82 percent of the rural population has access to electricity.

This park is part of a set of seven to be built in the provinces of Benguela (Baía Farta and Biópio), Huambo (Bailundo), Bié (Cuito), Lunda-Norte (Lucapa) and Lunda-Sul (Saurimo), which should be operational by the end of the year. Remember that of these, the photovoltaic parks of Saurimo, Biópio and Baía Farta are already producing energy.

As a whole, the seven solar parks were developed by an international consortium made up of the companies Sun África and MCA, with the latter in charge of the engineering and infrastructure construction component, having already completed three parks on schedule.

In this way, and so far, these investments have made it possible to provide clean and renewable energy to around 2.4 million Angolans, contributing to the annual reduction of polluting emissions by around one million tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide), he says. the ministry, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

Solar parks also eliminate the need to consume around 1.4 million liters of diesel in generators and thermal production, with highly polluting effects, which will allow for "very significant" savings in fuel import costs, he adds the government.
