The investments that the government has made in this sector aim to achieve the energy transition, within the scope of the 20-27 Development Plan and the 'Angola 2050' strategy, according to the head of the Energy and Water portfolio, cited by Angop.
According to Baptista Borges, the entry of 34 megawatts of renewable energy into the aforementioned dam, together with the solar park that recently came into operation in Saurimo (Lunda Sul), as well as others that will be ready soon in Lucapa (Lunda Norte) and Luena (Moxico), encourage the government to continue focusing on the energy transition.
Regarding the hydroelectric dam now inaugurated, the minister said that it is not an "isolated work", as it is limited to "a set of other projects, one of which (...) the rehabilitation of more than 80 kilometers of power line distribution that goes to Nzangi", as well as the project to build 15 solar parks, one of which is already being built in Cafunfu, in the municipality of Cuango.
In his intervention, he also mentioned that solar parks will also be implemented in the localities of Cambulo, Xá-muteba, Caungula, Capenda Camulemba, Lubalo, Cuilo, Lóvua, Camaxilo, Canzar, Xinge and Capaia, writes Angop.
Which, according to the minister, will correspond to a total capacity of 256 megawatts, making it possible to serve more than 350 thousand citizens by 2027.
With these projects, the Executive wants to electrify more than 40 percent of Lunda Norte, as well as promote economic activity.
The Luachimo Hydroelectric Plant was inaugurated this Friday, by the sector's minister. The infrastructure thus comes into operation with a new hydraulic and central circuit with 34 megawatts of power to supply electricity to the city of Dundo and nearby mining areas.
