According to Eduardo Peres Alberto, secretary general of SINPES, the interpolation of the stoppage, starting this Friday, for 30 days, results from a decision taken at the extraordinary meeting that took place earlier this month (on May 5).
"It is a deliberation that results from deep debates and the teaching class decided to once again prove their social responsibility and also their goodwill in this case and, above all, not to jeopardize the academic year", said Eduardo Peres Alberto, in statements to Lusa.
The trade unionist stressed that it is a unilateral decision, stressing that "so far the Government remains silent".
However, he warned that the possibility of resuming the stoppage remains on the table, as negotiation is awaited and, if this does not happen, the strike will resume at the end of next month.
"If the Government does not negotiate, on the 27th of June the strike will resume", underlined the secretary general of SINPES.
It should be noted that among the demands of teachers are, among others, decent wages and health insurance.
Regarding the demands of the class, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation says it considers that most of the demands have been fully addressed, with the rest being the responsibility of the Executive, writes Angop.
It should be recalled that Maria do Rosário Bragança, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation recently said that "all claims are part of the Government's own agenda", and that "some have been completely remedied and others are in the process of implementation, but these two factors remain which led the union to resume the strike on the 27th of February".
