Luanda government claims it does not want to extinguish but organize street sales

The Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) said this Monday that it does not intend to put an end to street vending in the city, but rather to organize commercial activity, showing surprise at the protest action by the zungueiras.

:

Hundreds of "zungueiras" women marched this Monday to downtown Luanda (Mutamba), where the GPL headquarters are located, protesting against the supposed end of street vending, singing and shouting slogans such as "zunga will not end".

The group was dispersed by the police as they approached the Palace of Justice, in Cidade Alta, the center of political power in the country and where the Presidential Palace is also located.

In a communiqué addressed to the newsrooms, the GPL points out that a Strategy for Mitigating Disorderly Sales (EMVD) was approved six months ago, with actions foreseen in the Commerce Reordering Plan being implemented in the municipalities of Belas, Viana, Cacuaco, with "gains visible" in several avenues.

"Following the schedule, and after the awareness and registration process was over, the municipalities of Luanda and Cazenga began, yesterday, Sunday, May 21, the implementation of the approved plan along the avenues Cónego Manuel das Neves and Ngola Kiluanje, as well as as well as Rua Rei Mandume and Rua da Gajajeira, in the urban districts of Sambizanga and Rangel", continues the statement, noting that "today, surprisingly, there was a movement of a group of people in the municipality of Luanda, uttering chants and command words".

The GPL reaffirms that the Commerce Reorganization Plan does not intend to extinguish street vending, but rather to organize commercial activity at provincial level, especially in residential areas, and calls for the understanding and collaboration of traders and the general public to follow the on-site inspection guidelines.
