Visa applications from Angolans to Brazil could reach 40,000 this year

The Brazilian ambassador in Angola said that this consular post is currently the one with the highest global demand for visas, with around 3,500 requests per month, with an estimated 40,000 by the end of the year.

This means that demand has practically doubled since last year and has increased almost six times since 2020, Rafael Vidal said.

"Before the pandemic, this (annual) average varied between 5,000 and 7,000 and today we reached 22,000 in 2022. Due to the monthly movement in recent months, we should reach 40,000 in 2023", the Brazilian ambassador in Angola told Lusa.

"In Angola, we have the highest global demand for visas", added Rafael Vidal, noting that around 3,500 visas are requested each month.

The diplomat considered that the demand is positive, as it reflects "the confidence of Angolans in Brazil, in the Brazilian economy, in Brazilian opportunities" and in tourism, but also puts pressure on consular activities.

"It also causes difficulties insofar as it involves longer delays in visa review and processing," he explained.

This is also an important topic for bilateral relations, said Rafael Vidal, indicating that it could also be analyzed during the visit of the Brazilian President, Lula da Silva, to the country, scheduled for August 2023.
