Secretary General of the Bloco Democrático says that proposed Labor Law does not give dignity to workers

Muata Sebastião said that his party has been fighting to guarantee more dignity to Angolan workers, asking the Executive for legal and salary conditions in the exercise of professions.

The official stated that his party has been trying to draw attention to this problem, referring that they have several strategies in their portfolio in favor of workers. He added to VerAngola that some of them were even forwarded to the Government, via the UNITA parliamentary group, which forms part of the Frente Patriótica Unida.

"We have our own ideas on the labor issue and this has a lot to do with the conception that we have of the country, in terms of growth and development. It is necessary to bet on the productive sector to increase the employability index", defends the politician.

According to those responsible, the party thus has legislative initiatives to propose to parliament in order to change the current framework, although there is already a proposal in parliament to amend the General Labor Law, which has caused difficulties with regard to the definition of the workplace .

"It presents a set of issues that endanger the life of the worker, in addition to the issue of the fixed-term contract of work. The worker will not be sure whether he can actually progress in the sector in which he was hired or have the guarantee of applying for credit banking, because there are limitations in terms of security. These are matters that must be very well touched upon and discussed, because the worker cannot feel insecure in his workplace", says the Bloco Democrático.

The politician, who was speaking on the occasion of Labor Day, marked on Monday, also referred that, in addition to the quality of wages, working conditions for most classes of workers are still precarious in general, and do not allow live with dignity.

The precariousness of work, according to Muata Sebastião, also has to do with the incompatibility of wages with the cost of living in view of the depreciation of the national currency and the inflation of the foreign currency (dollar and euro). The wages of a large part of the basic workers are not enough, "not even for the purchase of the basic food basket", they warn.

"We continue to pay workers very poorly. In other words, our salary reference has not kept pace with social dynamics, especially with regard to the cost of living. We continue to pay workers based on what we believe we can give and not starting from what represents the need of the worker", said the politician.

Muata Sebastião also mentioned that, for whom, in addition to work, workers have a life "and this has costs, so it cannot continue to be accepted that people have a job, but do not have the capacity to support themselves with the wages they earn" .
