The figures were advanced by the executive director of the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), José Gama Sala, in a speech during the 3rd Industry Forum, organized by the economic weekly Expansão and taking place this Friday in Luanda.

According to AIPEX data, the United States, the main country of origin of foreign investment in Angola, was responsible for almost a third of the investment (3,500 million dollars), followed by South Africa (678 million dollars) and Poland (652 million dollars).

José Gama Sala added that, in the case of the USA, these values were based on investments in the Soyo refinery, a South African real estate project to be implemented in Luanda and a project linked to the pharmaceutical industry in the case of Poland.

Further afield, China appears, responsible for projects worth 292 million dollars, and Turkey with 200 million dollars.

Portugal ranks 10th on this list, with investment intentions worth 26 million dollars.

In total, AIPEX registered 581 investment intentions in the period 2018-2023, of which 279 correspond to foreign investment projects, 227 of national origin and 75 of mixed capital.

Around 40 percent of these projects are in the industrial sector, according to the official.

In view of the registered projects, AIPEX estimates that 54,606 jobs will be created, of which more than 90 percent for national workers.
