Edmilson Pedro won gold for Angola on the first day of African Judo championship

Edmilson Pedro arrived, fought and won the gold medal in the -66 kg category. The Angolan judoka was featured on the opening day of the African Judo Championship, which takes place in Algeria until Sunday.

In this way, the judoka became the first male athlete in the country to win the African champion title. Edmilson Pedro won and became champion against Moroccan Abderrahmane Boushita.

The Angolan Judo Federation has already commented on the athlete's victory, saying it is a "memorable day in the history of Angolan judo".

Edmilson Pedro is a three-time national champion (2019, 2020 and 2021), having won the third gold medal for Angola in the African championship of the modality, which already has 43 editions.

Also in the fights that took place this Thursday, judoka Jeovana Freire lost the fight for the bronze medal in the -57 kg category against South African Jamine Martin. Also Diassonema Neide, who competes in the same category, could not beat the same athlete, staying in the second round of the championship.

In the -52 kg category, also for women, Andreza António lost against Tunisian Mariem Jmaour in the first round.

Participating in this event, taking place in Algeria, a selection of 17 Angolan judokas, nine male and eight female.
