Petro de Luanda's last title was won in 2009, under the leadership of Portuguese coach Bernardino Pedroto.

The new Angolan champions have 68 points, ahead of Sagrada Esperança, second placed, with 59.

Progresso do Sambizanga, with 18 points, in 14th position, Kabuscorp do Palanca, with 14, in 15th position, and Sporting de Benguela, which has nine points, in the last position, are no longer able to continue in the first division of Angolan football.

Depu, from Sagrada Esperança, leads the list of Girabola's top scorers, with 19 goals, followed by Tiago Azulão, from Petro de Luanda, with 17.

About the title, Portuguese coach Alexandre Santos said that he is proud to lead Petro de Luanda to the conquest of Girabola, after the last title won by the club in 2009.

"Without a doubt, my state is of enormous happiness, joy, satisfaction and accomplishment, I'm proud of everything that Petro's family was. We won the title with three games to go, in a memorable game against the great rival and runner-up and Angola's national champion last season, this gives more value to the title", he said in statements to Lusa.

The Portuguese coach, who dedicated the title to his family and the entire group, acknowledged having encountered difficulties throughout the season in the Angolan football championship, with emphasis on the defeat against Sagrada Esperança, in the first round game, which made the team realize that he had to "be stronger and raise the bar".

"The main difficulties are inherent to those who have to be champions and have to fight to be champions, who cannot fail, cannot facilitate, cannot lose points. We lost very few points, we had to win many games, but even so we passed to second place for about two weeks, and that made us realize that we had to be the best, we had to be the strongest and the best team in the championship", he said, referring that Petro was "one of the best teams in Girabola in everytime".

Alexandre Santos also expressed satisfaction with the squad at his disposal, and, for the next season, he left open the possibility of losing some players.

"The players have been fantastic, the squad is extremely balanced and competitive, and that's why I'm very satisfied, but football is made of changes, entries and exits, at any time this happens, because sometimes there are players who are not satisfied. because they want to play, or because they are sold, or because they receive better offers. At the moment, given the season we did, there are many Petro de Luanda players who are very coveted, so we don't know what will happen next season at the level squad, but I hope to have an equally competitive and strong squad", he defended.

As for the next season, Alexandre Santos, who also wants to win the Angola Cup this year, said that Petro de Luanda will enter with the same desire to win the title again as Girabola.

"Next season will be seen in the same way as this one, entering any game always to win, entering any competition with the aim of reaching the top and winning and managing to score African and Angolan football" he concluded.
