Country launches National Section of African Women Leaders Network

The country launched, this Tuesday, the National Section of the Network of African Women Leaders. With this launch – which was attended by Ana Dias Lourenço, First Lady of the Republic, who was elected as godmother – the country becomes the 28th to join this project, founded in 2017 by the African Union ( UA) with the support of the German government.

The launch of this network aims to promote gender equality, but also to collaborate for change and stability in Africa.

"Four years after the creation of the Network of African Women in Leadership, Angola joins this great continental movement today", said Faustina Alves de Sousa, Minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, who was also present at the act.

The design of this initiative reflects the UA's commitment to promoting gender and affirming women, said the minister, quoted by Angop.

According to Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs, quoted by Angop, the design of this initiative was inspired by article five of the Sustainable Development Goals. A point that highlights the importance of gender parity and the full collaboration of women as well as equal opportunities for leadership in political, economic and public life that covers six main points: governance and political participation, peace and security, finance and female entrepreneurship, youth leadership, agriculture and social mobilization.

The minister also took the opportunity to mention that joining this platform translates into the start of a comprehensive movement, incorporated by women leaders from various areas of society, united as a tool for changing the priority matters recognized by the network, which are the empowerment of women. rural women, participation in the political world, among others, writes Angop.

The launch was also attended by deputies of the National Assembly, secretaries of State, women organized in associations, among others.
