CNE approved “unanimously” opinion for João Lourenço to call general elections

The plenary of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) this Tuesday “unanimously” approved the opinion on the existence of conditions for the convening of general elections, requested by the President, and which will be sent “immediately” to João Lourenço.

The information was transmitted by the CNE spokesman, Lucas Quilundo, noting that the document was approved by the plenary of the body in an extraordinary session guided by the chairman of the commission, Manuel Pereira da Silva.

Speaking at the end of the session, which took place in Luanda, Lucas Quilundo said that the meeting took place within the framework of the request of the President, João Lourenço, made to the CNE under the terms of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.

"After extensive debate, among the members of the CNE, the plenary of the CNE unanimously approved this opinion, which will be immediately forwarded to the President of the Republic", he said.

"Of course, they will want to obtain information about the content of the same, however for reasons related to the administrative procedure and some ethics, considering that the addressee of the opinion is the President of the Republic, it is not good for the CNE to disclose its content, what happens can only be an initiative of the President of the Republic", stressed Lucas Quilundo.

The next general elections in Angola are scheduled for August.
