Stephen Townsend was speaking to the press at the end of the audience granted by President João Lourenço, in which the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, also participated.
According to Stephen Townsend, it was an "excellent" meeting, in which the way in which the two countries can increasingly cooperate and leverage their cooperation in various areas of common interest was discussed.
"As for example, the area of maritime security, because we recognize both on the side of Angola and the US the need to review the situation of instability, especially along the coast, so we approach more concrete ways that we can cooperate, for example in the areas training, equipment, security, joint operations and exercises," he said.
The commander of the US Africa Command highlighted that Angola has been working, both at the Government level and personally of the President of the Republic, to bring peace to the Great Lakes region.
"And especially with regard to the area of peacekeeping, excellent efforts have been made that have to be continued", he stressed.
