Police recorded 62 deaths from road accidents in the last week

The police announced this Monday that 88 people died in the country in the last week, namely 62 due to road accidents and the rest victims of homicide, during which 775 suspects were arrested for committing various crimes.


According to a public security report from April 29 to May 4, 2022, made public by the General Command of the National Police of Angola (PNA), of the total number of suspects, 496 were arrested for the presumed authorship of 26 homicides, 116 for robbery and 30 for sexual assaults.

At least 62 people died as a result of 280 road accidents that also resulted in 287 injuries.

The PNA also seized 47 firearms, 19 vehicles, 27 motorcycles and 100 kilos of liamba-type drugs.

In the field of land and maritime border protection, the Angolan corporation detained 3393 citizens, accompanied by 92 children, mostly from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), and 1084 Angolan citizens for fuel smuggling, illegal fishing and smuggling of undeclared goods.

The police also announced the seizure of 98 diamond stones and 928,700 kwanzas, in the provinces of Lunda Norte, Cuando-Cubango and Cuanza Sul, as part of "Operation Transparency", which also resulted in the arrest of 165 citizens, most from DR Congo.
