The Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning foresees to relocate, until August, a total of 1500 families, corresponding to 8700 inhabitants, from those areas of the urban district of Sambizanga for the Mayé-Mayé urbanization, says a Government statement to which VerAngola had access.

The national director of Land Management and Housing at the Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning, Adérito Carlos Mohamed, said that the process resumed this May because the houses built to accommodate people living in this vulnerable situation are ready.

"The first procedure is the registration of people and then the recast to reconfirm the information with local administrations and residents' commissions, so that there are no infiltrators," he explained.

This week, more than 13 families were relocated, whose process was accompanied by the Minister of State for Social Affairs, Carolina Cerqueira, during a visit to the site, in the context of the International Family Day celebrations.

The national director said that, within 15 days, a mega operation will be carried out to relocate about 500 families in the same place.

"We already have the conditions prepared and at the moment we have more than 1,200 houses to relocate, while we are building other houses until we reach the goal of three thousand to relocate the same number of families," said the official.

The Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning is also taking action to prevent residents from returning to risk areas after they have been resettled.

"One of the measures we have adopted is the immediate demolition of the old houses and the protection of the area with inspection personnel, so that they do not build new hovels again. And we are also encouraging the creation of associations to mobilize the population in this regard".

Mayé-Mayé is an integrated project that started in 2017 and brings together a set of social housing of type T2 and T3 and social facilities such as schools, health centers, police stations, civil protection services and firefighters, and others that guarantee safety and security. the survival of families.

In addition to housing for families selected from risk areas in the urban district of Sambizanga, others are being built in the Mayé-Mayé neighborhood to serve more vulnerable populations in the province of Luanda.
