In a statement, EPAL said that "due to the occurrence of heavy rains upstream of the kwanza river, and as a consequence, the raw water has been reaching the water treatment plants with a high content of organic matter.

The company further states that in order to guarantee the quality of drinking water, "the rate of chemical treatment would be higher than what is recommended by the World Health Organization.

Therefore, EPAL decided to "paralyze the water treatment plants in Lunda Sul, Luanda Sudeste, Kikuxi 1, Kikuxi 2 and Calumbo.

EPAL said that its technical teams are monitoring the water quality, to ensure the "quality parameters" and gradually restore the water supply.
