Filomena Farm invests three million dollars in a slaughterhouse

Three million dollars is the amount that Filomena Farm, located in Panguila, Bengo, invested in the construction of a slaughterhouse. With capacity to slaughter one million chickens per day, it is estimated that the slaughterhouse will start operating in June.

The slaughterhouse is to be erected as part of the farm's overall project. Budgeted at around US$50 million, this plan is for the company to expand its operations.

According to Angop, besides the construction of the slaughterhouse, the farm's general project also contemplates the construction of two more pavilions capable of housing 85,000 chickens each.

According to Abbas Nasrallah, the company's executive director, the farm currently comprises 12 pavilions capable of housing 1.2 million chickens. The goal is to move to a total of 14 pavilions.

The farm's strategy also includes the creation of an animal feed factory capable of producing 500 tons per day. Currently the company produces 150 tons of feed daily.

"With the entry into operation of the slaughterhouse and an organic fertilizer unit, the project will provide 90 new jobs," Abbas Nasrallah also announced, quoted by Angop.

The official also indicated that Filomena Farm has requested funding of about 5 billion kwanzas, under the Program to Support Production, Diversification of Exports and Substitution of Imports (Prodesi), to increase egg production levels (currently the farm produces 800,000 eggs per day) as well as conclude the projects it has in hand.

The farm opened its doors in 2015 and employs around 400 workers.
