"Now 25 thousand doses of component one have arrived. They will be enough to vaccinate 25 thousand people with the first dose," said the official, cited by the newspaper O País.
Silvia Lutucuta explained that Russia "already has a historical relationship with Angola in several areas" of the Angolan economy. "It felt that it could make a contribution in this fight that the country is waging against the covid-19 pandemic, an international fight," she added.
Besides the 25 thousand doses of the Russian vaccine, which were delivered by the company Alrosa, that country also donated to Angola vaccination materials, such as syringes.
Stating that these materials will reinforce the country's stock, the Health Minister said that Sputnik V has been administered in Angola since the beginning of May and that for the moment there are no records of secondary symptoms.
"The Russian vaccine is well placed in the international ranking. We believe that this way we will leave a mark of the Russian people and of the Alrosa company that, besides its contribution to the economy of our country, also felt the responsibility of giving its contribution in saving the lives of more Angolans", she said.
The minister thanked, on behalf of the government, the donation of the 25 thousand doses and showed interest in continuing to cooperate with Russia in the health area.
