According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of cases in the region is 4,692,520 and the number of recovered cases is 4,246,549, plus 7857 in the last 24 hours.
Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 2,012,752 cases and 63,164 deaths associated with the covid-19 disease.
In this region, only South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, accounts for 1,613,728 cases and 55,210 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area, with 1,413,822 infected and 42,239 fatalities.
East Africa records 631,780 infections and 12,235 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 467,223 and that of deaths is 6168. In Central Africa, infection cases amount to 166,943 and there are 2641 registered deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 14,327 deaths and 245,721 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 11,849 deaths and 326,572 cases of infection. Morocco accounts for 514,944 cases of infection and 9098 deaths associated with covid-19.
Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 3996 fatalities and 266,264 infections, and Algeria, with 3374 dead and 125,311 infected.
Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 828 deaths and 70,463 cases, followed by Angola (677 deaths and 30,791 cases of infection), Cape Verde (251 deaths and 28,281 cases), Equatorial Guinea (112 deaths and 7694 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (67 dead and 3746 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (35 dead and 2314 cases).
