Covid-19: Angola with six deaths, 259 new cases and 42 recoveries in 24 hours

Angola registered 259 new cases of covid-19 in 24 hours, as well as six deaths and 42 recoveries from the disease, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 126 are male and 133 are female, aged between one month and 75 years, according to a statement from Mufinda, cited by the Integrated Center for Public Security (CISP).

According to health authorities six deaths were registered, five in the province of Luanda and one in Huila.

Forty-two people were considered recovered from the disease, of which 40 in Luanda, one in Moxico and one in Huila.

Angola now totals 29,405 cases since the pandemic began, including 645 deaths, 25,187 recovered from the disease, and 3573 active cases.

Among the active cases, 21 are in critical condition and 38 are in serious condition.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,319,512 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 159.5 million cases of infection, according to an assessment by French news agency AFP.

According to the most recent data from the Africa CDC, the continent has recorded more than 4.65 million cases of covid-19 since the pandemic began, including 125,103 deaths.

The disease is transmitted by a coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
