The law stressed that it is "one of the oldest and most emblematic buildings that remain in downtown Luanda," whose "integrity must be preserved for future generations.
The classification of the property, located in the urban district of Ingombota, municipality of Luanda, gives local government entities the power to take measures for the effective protection and enhancement of this heritage and its protection area.
According to the information system of the Portuguese architectural heritage, the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage, the "building of the Customs House of Luanda / building of the port of Luanda," with features of "financial architecture, the twentieth century," has a main facade with "central body raised in relation to the sides, also having a tower at one end, aligned with the Avenida Marginal.
The same source says that the 1948 project, by architect Eurico Pinto Lopes, corresponds to "a third of the size of the existing building, including the tower," and that the project for the Port Authority building, designed by architect Lucínio Cruz, dates from 1953.
